"The outstanding 2023 ‘Russian River Valley’ Pinot Noir was aged in both new and neutral oak barrels prior to bottling. Juicy raspberry and Yakima cherry combine on the nose with salted walnut tones. The palate is elegant and shows gorgeous soil character, alongside bright cranberry and guava fruits, with cola accents. Complex and neatly-textured, enjoy over the next ten years. "The 2023 Hertelendy Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley is medium ruby; the bouquet is both spice and barrel influenced with aromas of dried mushroom, potpourri, cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves and toasted cedar. And there are some floral notes on the background including rose petal. Its fruit includes dark raspberry, red plum, boysenberry. This wine tastes like raspberry, red plum and rhubarb with a lingering savory edge including dried sage and bay leaf. And some of the barrel influenced spices on the bouquet are noticeable on the palate including of cinnamon stick, cloves and white pepper. The finish is particular oak influenced, dusty, chalky and savory. The finish lingers with noticeable texture, with both oak and grape tannins persisting with a drying character for quite some time, beyond the fruit. This texture is uncommon for a California Pinot Noir; we wouldn’t argue with you if you want to call it a Cabernet Sauvignon lovers Pinot Noir.
